Hudson is a chewer. He also has four teeth already. We just bought a new crib. This is what it looked like after two weeks.
Yowza.
I looked online for crib guards, the plastic-y sticky ones and the inappropriately priced fabric ones on Etsty. Really, guys? $75.00 for a couple of pieces of fabric and some batting?
Anyway, I was about to pull out my leftover fabric to see what I could come up with when I had an Oprah-worthy "Aha!" moment. I have a bumper pad that I'm not using! That matches the bedding perfectly! Because isn't that what a crib rail guard is? A glorified bumper pad?
So, I dug the bumper pad out and did some measuring. All I had to do was shorten it, which was just cutting and re-hemming, and seam rip and move the ties.
Voila!
So, before you go out and drop the cash for something, think of what you already have.

Awesome idea, especially since we can't use those beautiful matching bumper pads as bumper pads anymore!

DeleteI have the exact same crib and my son has eight teeth and over the past month has managed to chew down into the wood. I hate that it's ruined the crib and kept trying to decide what I need to buy to cover it. I still have his bumper pad, so this is brilliant!!
ReplyDeleteAuuna, I am writing a piece about bumper pads and I think this is a great idea to re-purpose the pads!!! I will link to this page!! - Jill with Twiniversity.com The fastest growing community for parents of multiples.
